Odds and Ends

We hope you enjoy our site. Our goal is to make sure you have easy access to the best information available on the web for SEC football. We will soon have several new features to help you stay informed even better about your team and their coming games.
Each week we offer quite a bit of content and reading all of it is really difficult…We don’t even get to read all of the news we want. That said I want to use this opportunity to direct you to a few items that you won’t want to miss. They are interesting and probably of interest to you as a college football fan. By the way, if you have ideas for what we can do to make the site better send me an e-mail so we can give your suggestion proper consideration. Thanks and enjoy the items below.

Pep talks

Scott Cacciola from the Memphis Commercial Appeal did a couple of great articles about what goes on in the locker room at halftime when coaches make their speeches. One is titled “The inspired locker room talk can be a game-breaker ... or not.” And can be found at this link: http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2008/oct/15/halftime-confidential/ while another has a video link you can use to hear Bear Bryant make one of his famous speeches. The title of the article is “Bryant was a master of halftime talks” and is at this link: http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2008/oct/15/bryant-was-a-master-of-halftime-talks/.

Everybody out

Jere Longman from the New York Times has an interesting article about the A-11 offense which takes advantage of a high school rule loop hole that creates an offense where every player on the field is a potential eligible receiver. This offense has been described as watching basketball on grass and the natural evolution of the spread offense. Read this interesting article at http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/17/sports/football/17offense.html.

Be careful what you wish for
Every fan that is clamoring for the scalp of their coach needs to keep one thing in mind. You will have to hire a new coach and prospective recruits will want to know where the program is heading. For the recruiting question Andy Staples at SI.com has an article at http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/andy_staples/10/16/auburn.tuberville/index.html you will want to read and this one http://www.govolsxtra.com/news/2008/oct/17/recruiting-is-key-in-ads-decision-on-coach/ from Dave Hooker of the Knoxville News-Sentinel is also interesting.
